Records on the track, record temperatures at the circuit

Held under bright blue skies and scorching summer heat, the second R.S. Days of the season took place on Wednesday July 24 at Belgium’s iconic Circuit de Spa-Francorchamps – and visiting R.S. fans got to bask in both record temperatures and see a record out on the track itself.

What’s been dubbed the ‘most beautiful circuit in the world’ thanks to its picturesque setting in the Ardennes countryside, proved a fitting backdrop for Laurent Hurgon to record yet another record lap time for a front-wheel drive car in the all-new Mégane R.S. Trophy-R.

Renault Sport’s hottest ever hatch recorded 2:48:338 for the lap. The record comes hot on the heels of the Trophy-R smashing the Nürburgring Nordschleife lap record in April this year. You can read all about the attempt here.

The 175 Renault Sport fans who attended the day got to enjoy far more than the record itself at the event that took place ahead of the Formula Renault Eurocup and the legendary Total 24 Hours of Spa.

A number of R.S. owners got the chance to take to the track itself – 100 people brought their own R.S. cars to take advantage of the R.S. Track Time package that included three 30-minute slots in which to test their own vehicles on the fast, hilly track with its high-speed turns and famed corners such as the Raidillon.

Others got the chance to head onto the circuit thanks to a series of Hot Laps in the Mégane R.S. Trophy-R, where they were given a spin around the track by Renault Sport pro drivers – a lucky few even got the chance to drive alongside Hurgon himself.

Visitors also enjoyed a luscious lunch in the Pit Brasserie, took part in paddock tours and relaxed in the Renault Sport Centre. This was home to presentations by R.S. Experts, Renault’s F1 showcar, and a pop-up shop with R.S. Performance accessories. A fierce but friendly competition took place on the centre’s simulators where owners keenly contested for the chance to win a Hot Lap with record breaker Hurgon.

The day ended with the success of the latest R.S. Days and New Mégane R.S. Trophy-R lap record having been celebrated by all.
