Twingo R1 Rallycross Cup sees another new winner
Some 27 drivers came together for round two of the Twingo R1 Rallycross Cup at Lavare in the Sarthe region. And though Aurelien Crochard dominated the qualifying heats, it was Cyril Raymond who took victory in an eventful race.
The second ever Twingo R1 Rallycross Cup event attracted a bumper 27-car grid to La Sarthe and once again produced some extremely competitive racing and another first-time winner.
The points leader following his win at Chateauroux, Fabien Grosset-Janin was the first driver to show on Saturday when he took the points in the Super Pole.
In the three qualifying heats, however, it was local driver Aurelien Crochard who took control to post the fastest times, putting him at the head of the grid for the A final, with Cyril Raymond and Andrea Dubourg lining up beside him.
A three-car shunt at the first corner brought championship leader Fabien Grosset-Janin’s race to a premature end, with Cyril Raymond then taking the lead after slipping past Aurelien Crochard and Andrea Dubourg, who punctured shortly afterwards. And at the end of the seven-lap race it was Cyril Raymond who crossed the line first, well ahead of Aurelien Crochard and Julien Anodeau.
Cyril Raymond’s win took him to the top of both the Twingo R1 Rallycross Cup and French Junior Rallycross Championship standings.
The next round takes place at Lessay in the Manche region on 13-14 July.
