Saturday race winners Victor Martins and ART Grand Prix repeated on Sunday at the Nürburgring. The team did even better with a sweep of the podium thanks to the Frenchman’s victory ahead of team-mates Paul Aron - who scored his first rookie win - and Grégoire Saucy. On the heels of this one-two-three result, Victor Martins and ART Grand Prix leave Germany with the lead in both Formula Renault Eurocup general classifications.

Victor Martins dominated Friday afternoon’s qualifying session for race two with a best time of 1:54.808s. The Frenchman lined up on pole ahead of Caio Collet (R-ace GP) and team-mates Grégoire Saucy and Paul Aron. William Alatalo (JD Motorsport) and Lorenzo Colombo (Bhaitech Racing) started from row three.

Victor Martins put in a perfect start to maintain the lead while Paul Aron and Grégoire Saucy got around Caio Collet at turn one. Meanwhile, William Alatalo suffered a technical problem. Lorenzo Colombo moved up to fifth place ahead of Franco Colapinto (MP Motorsport). From 11th on the grid, Hadrien David (MP Motorsport) overtook David Vidales (JD Motorsport) for seventh place on lap two.

Race leader Victor Martins quickly pulled away, stretching his lead to more than three seconds over Paul Aron at the end of lap five. The Estonian had to deal with pressure coming from Grégoire Saucy, who in turn was under treat from Caio Collet and Lorenzo Colombo while the action was concentrated in the midfield.

Lowering several times the race track record for the category at the Nürburgring that he set the day before, Victor Martins went on for the win with a nine-second margin of victory ahead of his team-mates. Scoring their first top three finishes in the Formula Renault Eurocup, rookie Paul Aron and Grégoire Saucy made it an all ART Grand Prix podium.

Despite a minor off-track excursion three laps from the chequers, Caio Collet held on fourth place ahead of Lorenzo Colombo. Franco Colapinto finished a lonely sixth place ahead of Hadrien David. After a series of three consecutive podium results, David Vidales had to settle for eighth place as he fended off the attacks from Alex Quinn (Arden Motorsport), while Amaury Cordeel (FA Racing) wrestled away the final point from Petr Ptáček (R-ace GP) in the waning minutes of the race.

Starting grid - Race 2

In the general classification, Victor Martins takes the lead with a five-point advantage from Caio Collet. David Vidales is third, 24 points adrift of the leader and one point ahead of Franco Colapinto. William Alatalo completes the top five despite not scoring points today.

Quotes

Victor Martins (ART Grand Prix): "This hat-trick is extremely important for the team, as is my first double win of the season. I am sure there will be more. We worked hard this summer to come back strong and the car was just amazing. Like yesterday, I only had to focus on the start and then manage my race lap after lap. This is the perfect result to reward the team. I always approach the races one at a time: we work, we analyse, we improve and we deliver. I think more about winning races than about the title and the target will be reached at the end if we continue like this."

Paul Aron (ART Grand Prix): "I am very happy to get my first podium, my first win in the rookie category as well as this one-two-three finish for the team. They have done a mega job. I tried to gain as many positions as possible at the start as overtaking is difficult on this circuit. I didn’t manage it yesterday, so I worked a lot on this and this allowed me to move up to second place at turn one. I tried to pressure Victor to take the lead, but I didn’t really have the pace to fight with him. Then I focused on my pace and my tyres against Grégoire behind me. The Nürburgring isn’t my favourite track, so I am really happy with this podium. I think that Magny-Cours is a track that will better suit my driving style from what I saw on the simulator and I believe that we will be even stronger there!"

Grégoire Saucy (ART Grand Prix): "The entire team was really good this weekend and I was always in the top five except for one session. My goal was to stay there and continue to improve, so it’s great that it ended with a podium. Now we have to keep working to carry the momentum. I could have insisted a bit more against Paul at the start, but I made the same mistake as yesterday. I have to learn from it even if he is my team-mate, but these big points were important for the team."
