The Round of 16 is set
Your replies exceeded our expectations in the opening round of our tournament to answer the question of who is the greatest Formula Renault graduate.
The turnout of fans to formulerenault.com to choose the last four drivers to reach the Round of 16 was tremendous.
Unanimously selected by our panel of five experts, Robert Kubica and Heikki Kovalainen led the way with 98.6% and 94.2% of the votes respectively.
A Formula Renault 2.0 Italia and Formula Renault 3.5 Series title-winner, the Pole clinched his place in the next round where he will face Kimi Räikkönen in a much-awaited matchup between two former Enstone stars while another Renault F1 Team former driver, Heikki Kovalainen, will take on Sebastian Vettel.
With 75.7% of the votes, Olivier Panis also qualified and will now face his former F1 team boss, Alain Prost.
Jean Alesi completes the bracket. With 73.4% of the votes versus 58.1% for Pastor Maldonado, the Frenchman moves on to the Sweet 16 where he will encounter Lewis Hamilton tomorrow.
In the Round of 16 it will be Lewis Hamilton vs Jean Alesi; Didier Pironi vs Daniel Ricciardo; Sebastien Vettel vs Heikki Kovalainen; Charles Leclerc vs Jacques Laffite; Kimi Räikkönen vs Robert Kubica; Valtteri Bottas vs Patrick Tambay; Alain Prost vs Olivier Panis and René Arnoux vs Felipe Massa.
The opening head to head will begin on formulerenault.com Wednesday May 13th at 14:00 CET and will last 24 hours. The battles will continue each day this week and next week just until the eight qualifiers and quarter-final berths are announced.
