The final four!

Our tournament to determine the greatest driver ever to come out of the Formula Renault system continues tomorrow with two particularly open and unpredictable semi-finals!

Once again, the fans headed to formulerenault.com in droves last week to select the four drivers to advance to the final four.

After eliminating Olivier Panis with the largest score in the round of 16, Alain Prost advanced again in trouncing his former Renault team mate, René Arnoux, with the biggest margin of victory in this round with 92.2% of the votes.

The Renault Sport Racing special advisor will next face Sebastien Vettel, winner of the closest duel in the quarters. The German narrowly won with the jury and the fans to move on with 57.4% of the votes versus Jacques Laffite.

While this semi-final will be a match up of two four-time Formula 1 world champions, the other half of the draw will pit two hopefuls whose careers were cruelly shattered.

After advancing from the preliminary round, then defeating Kimi Räikkönen in the round of 16, Robert Kubica will continue on after beating Valtteri Bottas. Our panel of experts gave a slight edge to the Finn and 2008 Formula Renault Eurocup champion, but the Pole was able to count on his immense popularity to turn the tide and finish with 61.6% of the ballots.

On Wednesday, the first ever Formula Renault 3.5 Series title holder will take on Didier Pironi, who continued his fantastic run in creating the biggest upset in the quarter-finals. The Frenchman, who previously took out Daniel Ricciardo with 54.7% of the votes, this time won over the jury and the public to defeat six-time world champion and number 1 seed, Lewis Hamilton with 59.2% of the votes cast!

This unexpected encounter will take place Wednesday June 3rd at 14:00 CET on formulerenault.com for 24 hours prior to the second semi-final between Sebastien Vettel and Alain Prost on Thursday June 4th. The results and the final will then be announced on Friday June 5th.
