Lorenzo Colombo led the way in qualifying for race two at Hockenheim. Despite missing the tests on Friday, the Italian driver scored his second pole this season with a time of 1:36.956s ahead of Victor Martins. The last driver standing in the way of the Frenchman’s title run, Caio Collet lined up eighth on the grid after a clutch problem was fixed just minutes before the session started.

When the lights went out, Lorenzo Colombo was beaten off the line by Victor Martins, but he tucked in behind the Frenchman and retook the lead at the hairpin. Further back, Franco Colapinto (MP Motorsport) passed both Hadrien David (MP Motorsport) and Paul Aron (ART Grand Prix) as Caio Collet, who moved up to sixth place, looked on.

The Brazilian was the driver to watch as he first overtook Paul Aron, then picked up another position when Hadrien David dropped out with a broken suspension. Despite his efforts, his comeback drive ended on lap seven due to a faulty sensor. The safety car was called out to allow for the retrieval of his car parked in the grass.

Lorenzo Colombo did well to control the field at the restart and soon pulled away to go on to take the first win for Bhaitech Racing in the Formula Renault Eurocup, making it six different teams with a race win this season. The Italian driver also won for the first time since July 2019 at Spa-Francorchamps.

Victor Martins and Franco Colapinto joined him on the podium, as did rookie category winner Alex Quinn (Arden Motorsport) after his move on Paul Aron. Starting ninth and twelfth, Michael Belov (R-ace GP) and David Vidales (JD Motorsport) finished sixth and seventh respectively ahead of Ugo de Wilde (Arden Motorsport). William Alatalo (JD Motorsport) overtook Reshad De Gerus (Arden Motorsport) for ninth at the restart.

In the general classification, Victor Martins now has a 44-point lead from Caio Collet heading to the final two races of the season. In the rookie category, the title will come down to Alex Quinn and David Vidales, who are currently separated by just six points while ART Grand Prix has clinched the Teams title.

The last page in the 50th season in the Formula Renault history will be written next week at Circuit Paul Ricard (November 12-15).
