World Series by Renault ready for sixth visit to Motorland Aragon

Motorland Aragon is all set to host the opening weekend of the 2014 World Series by Renault season. This weekend’s visit will be the sixth the championship has made to the arid hills of Teruel.

Designed by renowned Formula One track architect Hermann Tilke, the circuit was laid out with the assistance of former F1 driver Pedro de la Rosa, the technical consultant at Motorland Aragon. The 5.344km track is situated close to the town of Alcaniz, which welcomes a clutch of world champions every year.

The very first racing staged at Motorland was the World Series by Renault meeting on 24-25 October 2009, less than two years after work started on the construction of the track.

That inaugural weekend saw two doubles, with Bertrand Baguette (International Draco Racing) winning both Formula Renault 3.5 Series races en route to the title and Antonio Felix da Costa (Motopark Academy) scoring two wins of his own in Eurocup Formula Renault 2.0.

The Spanish track provided the setting for the opening round of the following World Series by Renault season, an honour it has held ever since.

Tech 1 Racing and Fortec Motorsports have enjoyed more success than any other teams at Motorland Aragon, with four wins apiece in Formula Renault 3.5 and Eurocup Formula Renault 2.0.

This year’s World Series by Renault season will once again be kicking off in the heart of the hills of Aragon, where the battle to succeed Kevin Magnussen (DAMS), Carlos Huertas (Carlin) and Matthieu Vaxiviere (Tech 1 Racing), the winners of the opening races last year, is sure be intense.
