Host of the F1 Hungarian Grand Prix since 1986, the Budapest circuit offers a technical challenge and an incessant series of corners that leave the competitors no time to relax. For this ninth edition on the World Series by Renault calendar, the 100% Renault event will build on its unfailing public success in Hungary.

On the programme, the spectators will be treated to the aggressive races in the Renault Sport Trophy, the fights between the young guns of the Eurocup Formula Renault 2.0, as well as the battles between the F1 hopefuls in the Formula Renault 3.5 Series. The highlight of the weekend, the Infiniti Red Bull Racing F1 Show will feature a former star of the World Series by Renault, Antonio Felix da Costa. The French F4 Championship will also be in action alongside the Renault Sport Show and Renault Kadjar demonstrations. The ladder will be on display to the public inside the Village.

Numerous attractions for the public will be on offer in the paddock and Renault Village: simulators, pit-stop challenge and road safety awareness booths alongside the acrobats in the Freestyl’air show. Fans will also have the chance to meet the drivers during the pit-walk in their weekend a wash in the colours of Renault.

Formula Renault 3.5 Series: three for one spot
After five rounds, three drivers have monopolized the honours: Oliver Rowland (Fortec Motorsports), Matthieu Vaxiviere (Lotus) and Jazeman Jaafar (Fortec Motorsports). Already race winners at Motorland Aragón, the Englishman and Frenchman repeated at Spa-Francorchamps and hope to keep their momentum going.

The leading trio is being chased by the two rookies in the DAMS team: Dean Stoneman and Nyck de Vries. On the podium at each meeting, the Red Bull Junior Team protégé will aim for the race victory. His team mate and member of the McLaren Young Driver Development Programme will return to the circuit where he began an exceptional second half of the season in 2013.

Further behind, Tom Dillmann (Jagonya Ayam with Carlin) will try to stay in the hunt. A goal shared by Tio Ellinas (Strakka Racing) and Egor Orudzhev (Arden Motorsport), who both scored points in each race in Belgium. Pietro Fantin (International Draco Racing) and Meindert van Buuren (Lotus) will hope to consolidate their positions in the top ten, as will Nicholas Latifi (Arden Motorsport), who led for the first time in Belgium.

After scoring points at Spa, Aurélien Panis (Tech 1 Racing) and Gustav Malja (Strakka Racing) want to confirm their progression. On the other hand, Alfonso Celis (AVF), Sean Gelael (Jagonya Ayam with Carlin), Bruno Bonifacio (International Draco Racing), Philopaz Armand (Pons Racing) and Roy Nissany (Tech 1 Racing) need to rebound. For her part, Beitske Visser (AVF) will be looking for her points of the season. And finally, Roberto Merhi (Pons Racing) will hope to break his streak of bad luck at a circuit where he won by nearly 30 seconds last year.

Eurocup Formula Renault 2.0: everyone hunting Louis Delétraz
Leader from the opening race, Louis Delétraz (Josef Kaufmann Racing) saw his adversaries close the gap at Spa-Francorchamps. After having building his lead in Formula Renault 2.0 NEC at the Red Bull Ring last weekend, the Swiss driver will try to increase his lead of six points over his closest rival, Anthoine Hubert (Tech 1 Racing).

With three podium results already, the 2013 French F4 Champion will be aiming for his first success in the category. Seven other drivers could dislodge Louis Delétraz from the points lead, including Jake Hughes (Koiranen GP) and Ukyo Sasahara (ART Junior Team), both of whom scored their maiden victories in Belgium. The only other driver than Anthoine Hubert to score points in every race, Matevos Isaakyan (JD Motorsport) will want to win, as will Ignazio D’Agosto (Manor MP Motorsport), who finished fifth twice at Spa-Francorchamps. And finally, Dennis Olsen (Manor MP Motorsport), Ben Barnicoat (Fortec Motorsports) and Kevin Jörg (Josef Kaufmann Racing), who took two wins at the Red Bull Ring last week, will hope to make up lost ground in this battle for the 500,000€ award.

As outsiders in the general classification, Callan O’Keeffe (Fortec Motorsports), Darius Oskoui (ART Junior Team), the best placed rookie, and Jack Aitken (Koiranen GP), the leader in the Formula Renault 2.0 ALPS, will all have the same goal. The latter scored his first success at Budapest in 2014.

In the top ten at Spa, Thiago Vivacqua (JD Motorsport) will try to continue his strong form, while James Allen (ARTA Engineering), Harrison Scott (AVF) and Simon Gachet (Tech 1 Racing) want to return to the point scoring positions. As for Lasse Sørensen (Manor MP Motorsport), Amaury Bonduel (JD Motorsport), Luke Chudleigh (Fortec Motorsports), Martin Kodric (Fortec Motorsports), Amaury Richard (ARTA Engineering), Charlie Eastwood (AVF), Valentin Hasse-Clot (Manor MP Motorsport), Anton De Pasquale (Koiranen GP) and Hugo De Sadeleer (Tech 1 Racing), all will give it their all to finally break their 2015 duck.

The field will be completed by wild-card entries Nikita Mazepin (Josef Kaufmann Racing) and Vasily Romanov (Cram Motorsport).

Renault Sport Trophy: Oregon Team, Diederik Sijthoff and Steijn Schothorst to confirm
Winners of the first round in the history of the Renault Sport Trophy, Dario Capitanio and David Fumanelli (Oregon Team) lead the Endurance classification. However, the two Italians dropped out of the sprint races, won by Diederik Sijthoff (V8 Racing) in Prestige and Steijn Schothorst (Equipe Verschuur) in Elite.

While the Oregon Team duo will try to bounce back to remain in the race for the rookie test with Nismo in Super GT and a ride in the 2016 24 Hours of Le Mans in LM P2, the two Dutchman will aim for the double with their respective team mates, Nicky Pastorelli (V8 Racing) and Jeroen Schothorst (Equipe Verschuur).

Against them, some teams hope to take the upper hand, beginning with the tandem of Andrea Pizzitola and Richard Gonda (ART Junior Team). After looking strong for the win in Endurance, they had to settle for third place. The other Renault Sport R.S. 01 in the French squad will be another to watch: fifth in Endurance, sixth in Elite and on the podium in Prestige, Indy Dontje and Toni Forné (ART Junior Team) are ambitious.

Team mates of Dario Capitanio and David Fumanelli, Luciano Bacheta and Niccolò Nalio (Oregon Team) want to do better after their second position in Endurance. Just off the podium in Elite, Luciano Bacheta will race for the win, while Niccolò Nalio will want to make up the ground he lost after retiring in the Prestige race. An objective shared by the Brazilians Alan Hellmeister and Adalberto Baptista (Oregon Team), both of whom dropped out in the Sprint races after their eight place in Endurance. It will be the same for the Portuguese pair of Miguel Ramos and Antonio Coimbra (Equipe Verschuur), seventh in Endurance, but not classified in Sprint.

At V8 Racing, Diederik Sijthoff’s team mates will try to imitate him, both in Elite with Roy Greets and Federico Leo and in Prestige with Stefano Costantini and Max Braams, both of whom finished just off the podium at Spa-Francorchamps.

After the tests where Zele Racing set the fastest time, the start of the season was more discreet. In the n°9 car, Vittorio Ghirelli and Philippe Bourgois will be keen to do better like the drivers of the other Renault Sport R.S. 01: Bas Schothorst and Philippe Haezebrouck. Monlau Competicion will once again put their confidence in Wolfgang Reip, who finished on the podium at Spa. In Hungary, the winner of the 2012 GT Academy will partner with David Cebrián Ariza, who finished fourth in the Renault Clio Cup España in 2013 and 2014.

For this second round, even number obliged, the grid for the Endurance race will be determined by the order of the “Elite” at the end of their qualifying session. They will have to start the race and score points in their category according to the intermediate classification fixed before the driver changes.

All the weekend’s races will be aired live on the Eurosport Player. The Saturday Formula Renault 3.5 Series will be broadcast live on Eurosport International, Eurosport UK and Eurosport France. On Sunday the race will be live on Eurosport 2 and Eurosport 2 UK and on a delayed basis on Eurosport International and Eurosport France. Eurosport 2 will have delayed coverage of the Eurocup Formula Renault 2.0, as will Motors TV for the Renault Sport Trophy, with the exception of Sprint 1, which will be aired live.

In the Formula Renault 3.5 Series, they can now use the DRS eight times in each race because we listened to the teams who asked that the ‘low-downforce configuration’ on the rear wing be done away with. In both the Eurocup Formula Renault 2.0 and Renault Sport Trophy, there has been a string of different winners and everything is still up for grabs! The fight should be intense ahead of the summer break and the return to action at Silverstone in September!”
