Renault Sport Challenge to add spice to the French Rally Cup in 2014
Renault Sport Technologies is committing itself to the French Rally Cup from 2014, with the creation of the Renault Sport Challenge. Competing in three different classes, crews will be vying for prizes at each of the 10 events on the calendar. Come the end of the season, the three class winners will take part in the Rallye du Var in a new Renault Clio R.S. R3T.
Offering the most comprehensive motorsport/customer rally range on the market, Renault Sport Technologies is continuing to innovate by creating the Renault Sport Challenge for the 2014 season. The new formula is open to crews competing in the French Rally Cup in the Twingo R.S. R1, Twingo R.S. R2, Clio R.S. R3 and Megane R.S. N4.
The 2014 calendar is made up of 10 of the most important rounds of the French Rally Cup (coefficient 4 and 5 events), which are held all over the country. In a bid to establish even closer ties with its customers, Renault will organise special events at each round with the support of local dealerships.
Prizes will be handed out to the top eight drivers in each of the R1, R2 and R3/N4 classes based on the final classification at each event, with championship points also being awarded at each round. Only the six best results scored by each driver will count towards the end-of-season championship standings.
Renault Sport Technologies will present the winners of each of the three classes with a very special prize: an invitation to compete in the 2014 Rallye du Var in a Clio R.S. R3T as part of an official team.
In staying loyal to its values, Renault Sport Technologies will go to every length to ensure drivers compete on a level playing field. With that goal in mind, scrutineering will be carried out at each of the season’s ten rounds.
“We are proud to announce the creation of the Renault Sport Challenge,” commented Renault Sport Technologies Motorsport Director Arnaud Boulanger. “We wanted to offer a framework in which the hundreds of crews that are loyal to us throughout France can express themselves, while also attracting new competitors to a formula in which cost control is vital. We have selected some of the French Rally Cup’s most iconic events, which are recognised for the quality of their routes and organisation. A key concern of ours, a level playing field is essential to creating a sporting atmosphere, which is why we will be rolling out the same tried and tested system. Thanks to the support of the Renault network’s regional managers, we will be able to use rally as a tool for driving sales and motivating people. All the ingredients are there for this new competition to be a success.”
