Oscar Nogues on pole for title bid
Eurocup Clio - Qualifying 1: Points leader Oscar Nogues (Rangoni Corse) grabbed his second Eurocup Clio pole of the season at the Circuito de Jerez on Saturday. The Spaniard outpaced his championship rivals Eric Trémoulet (Vic’Team) and Mikel Azcona (PCRSport) to increase his chances of sealing his second title in the class in the weekend’s opening race.
Qualifying began with Eric Trémoulet posting the first timed lap, only for Pablo Martin (SMC Junior Motorsport), Yang Xu (Monlau Competicion) and Fabio Mota (Lema Racing Team) to all go faster.
The championship-chasing Frenchman hit back to lead at the halfway point of the session. But with six minutes remaining Oscar Nogues took control of proceedings, lapping in a time of 2:01.234 to head the grid from his title rivals Eric Trémoulet and Mikel Azcona, with Alex Morgan (Rangoni Corse) and Massimiliano Pedalà (Composit Motorsport) completing the top five.
Saturday’s Eurocup Clio race at the Circuito de Jerez begins at 15.40.
