Nyck de Vries clinches the title for Koiranen GP
With the Eurocup Formula Renault 2.0 title already in pocket, Nyck de Vries (Koiranen GP) scored his fifth win of the season, assuring a second crown in the category for his team, Koiranen GP. At the Circuito de Jerez, the member of the McLaren Young Driver Development Programme overtook pole winner Dennis Olsen (Prema Powerteam) on lap eight. The Norwegian was however excluded after the race for a non conformity with the technical regulations. Jack Aitken (Fortec Motorsports) and Hans Villemi (Prema Powerteam) completed the podium.
This morning, Dennis Olsen took his second pole position in the Eurocup Formula Renault 2.0 with a lap time of 1:40.415. The Norwegian lined up ahead of Nyck de Vries and team mate Hans Villemi on the starting grid. Jack Aitken and Alexander Albon (KTR) followed the leading trio.
Dennis Olsen held on to the lead ahead of Nyck de Vries while Jack Aitken and Alexander Albon got past Hans Villemi. Back in the field, Stefan Riener (Koiranen GP) and Hongli Ye (Koiranen GP) came together. Further down the order Matt Parry (Fortec Motorsports), Jake Hughes (Strakka Racing) and the 2014 North European Cup champion, Ben Barnicoat (Fortec Motorsports) couldn’t avoid Kevin Jörg (Josef Kaufmann Racing) who spun out.
After the safety car intervention, the leading positions remained unchanged. Behind the top five, the Tech 1 Racing entries of George Russel and Anthoine Hubert got the better of Bruno Bonifacio (Prema Powerteam) on lap six.
In overtaking Dennis Olsen on lap eight, Nyck de Vries scored his fifth success of the season. With the title already clinched, the Dutchman led home the Norwegian, who was excluded after the race for a non conformity with the technical regulations. Jack Aitken was then promoted to second ahead of Hans Villemi and Alexander Albon. Wild-card entry, George Russell finished fifth ahead of team mate Anthoine Hubert. Bruno Bonifacio, Steijn Schothorst (Manor MP Motorsport), Aurélien Panis (ART Junior Team) and Callan O’Keeffe (KTR) completed the top ten.
