Mikel Azcona grabs pole in Jerez

Eurocup Clio – Qualifying 2: The last Eurocup Clio qualifying session of the year went the way of Mikel Azcona (PCRSport). Defying two interruptions, the Spaniard came out on top from Oscar Nogues (Rangoni Corse), who was crowned champion yesterday. The battle for second place in the standings is still very much on, however, with Eric Trémoulet (Vic’Team) and Massimiliano Pedalà (Composit Motorsport) sitting right behind the poleman on the second row of the grid in Jerez.

Pablo Martin (SMC Junior Motorsport) emerged from the first round of flying laps atop the timing screens, only for Eric Trémoulet to take over. Han Hui Lin (Monlau Competicion) then ran out of track to prompt the first of two interruptions.

Mikel Azcona went fastest on the restart. His time of 2:01.569 was still the benchmark when an incident involving Yang Xu (Monlau Competicion) brought the red flag out for a second time. With the rest of the field unable to better his time, Mikel Azcona remained on pole, followed by Oscar Nogues, Eric Trémoulet, Massimiliano Pedalà and Facundo Della Motta (Pujolaracing).

The final race of season ten of the World Series by Renault starts at 15.25.
