Kevin Jörg on top at Moscow Raceway

Kevin Jörg (Josef Kaufmann Racing) set best time in the collective test sessions in the Eurocup Formula Renault 2.0 at Moscow Raceway. With a lap of 1:32.263, the Swiss driver led from co-leader in the championship, Nyck de Vries (Koiranen GP). Aurélien Panis (ART Junior Team) was third quickest, while local driver Egor Orudzhev (Tech 1 Racing) was fastest in the morning session.

Under cloudy skies, the Eurocup Formula Renault 2.0 competitors were the first to take to the Moscow Raceway. While Russian Egor Orudzhev was the early leader, the times quickly improved. Before the red flag stoppage provoked by Anthoine Hubert (Tech 1 Racing) a third of the way through the session, Callan O’Keeffe (ART Junior Team) was a top the time sheet.

After 30 minutes, Egor Orudzhev swapped best time with the South African driver, but his team-mate, Vasily Romanov and Andrea Pizzitola (Manor MP Motorsport) kicked off the final sprint. On his final lap, the Russian turned in a lap time of 1:33.340, .07s ahead of Andrea Pizzitola, Ryan Tveter (Josef Kaufmann Racing), Matt Parry (Fortec Motorsports) and Vasily Romanov at the end of a session where the top 23 were covered by less than a second.

In the afternoon and after a very competitive first 15 minutes, Aurélien Panis was quickest before the session was halted with Matt Parry’s car stopped on the track. When the action resumed, the Koiranen GP drivers, Nyck de Vries then Nick Cassidy led before ceding to Kevin Jörg.

Matevos Isaakyan (JD Motorsport) was the first to improve on the morning’s best time. Hans Villemi (Prema Powerteam), Andrea Pizzitola and Matt Parry took their turns leading the category before the final 10 minutes turned to Kevin Jörg’s advantage with a time of 1:32.263, the Swiss driver dominated the co-leader in the general classification, Nyck de Vries, as well as Aurélien Panis, Egor Orudzhev and Anthoine Hubert.

Quotes

Kevin Jörg: ”The afternoon went very well. I was the fastest on fresh tires then on new rubber at the end of the session. I am really pleased because the work we put in this morning paid off. I hope it will carry over tomorrow in qualifying. There is a chance of rain; it will be a stiff challenge! ”

Nyck de Vries: ”We can be somewhat satisfied with our Friday. The first session was probably as good as the second. I think I can improve a bit and there is still some things to get out of the car. Tomorrow, the goal will be the same: the pole although we have to serve a penalty we received at Spa.”

Egor Orudzhev: ”I was practically always among the top three, even when the track became faster. I can do better on new tyres. I made a small mistake that cost us a few tenths. I am thrilled to evolve at my home circuit and this was our best practice session of the year, which is promising!”
