Josh Files shines again at Motorland Aragón
After clinching the Eurocup Clio crown at Motorland last year, Josh Files (Team Pyro) picked up where he left off by claiming the first pole of the new season and his fifth in a row. Joining the in-form Briton at the head of the grid on Saturday afternoon will be Eric Tremoulet (Vic’Team) and Massimiliano Pedala (Composit Motorsport).
The 20-minute qualifying session began with Ivan Pulic (Lema Racing Team) dictating the pace, only for Josh Files to reply by going fastest. And when he was knocked off the top of the timesheets by 2013 Renault Clio Cup Elf champion Eric Tremoulet, the Eurocup Clio holder came back in style, clocking a fastest lap of 2:18.642 five minutes from the end of a session cut short when Ivan Pulic ran off.
The polesitter will be joined by Eric Tremoulet on the front row of the grid, with Massimiliano Pedala and Oscar Nogues (Rangoni Corse) sitting in behind them.
The opening Eurocup Clio race of the season gets under way at 16:10.
Josh Files: “I had a clear run and that was important. I would have liked to have got a tow down the main straight but it didn’t happen. Given the conditions, I’m very happy to be on pole. It should be an interesting race because there’s not much time between any of us.”
