Immersion in F1 for the World Series by Renault drivers

To ensure World Series by Renault competitors have all they need to access Formula 1, Renault Sport Technologies and Renault Sport F1 invited a handful for a special visit to the F1 paddock. During the running of the British Grand Prix, drivers from the Formula Renault 3.5 Series and the Eurocup Formula Renault 2.0 met the F1 movers and shakers at Silverstone.

Once again this year, Renault Sport Technologies, Renault Sport F1 and their partners offered the drivers the chance to come to Milton Keynes for two days of training at Infiniti Red Bull Racing before spending a day at the British Grand Prix paddock in Silverstone.

On July 1 and 2, Levin Amweg (ART Junior Team), Luca Ghiotto (International Draco Racing), Meindert van Buuren (Pons Racing), Norman Nato (DAMS), Oliver Webb (Pons Racing), Oscar Tunjo (Pons Racing), Pierre Gasly (Arden Motorsport) toured the factory of the four-time defending World Championship team.

Organised by the Infiniti Red Bull Racing Team, the visit to the Team’s factory in Milton Keynes provided the young drivers with the opportunity to discuss various topics with a host of Senior Engineers including an in-depth tour of the Team’s facilities. The two day event also involved a tailored training session specifically designed for the young drivers to help with their race preparations.

The next day, Pierre Gasly and Norman Nato were joined by Bruno Bonifacio (Prema Powerteam), Oliver Rowland (Fortec Motorsports), Roberto Merhi (Zeta Corse) and Zoel Amberg (AVF) at Silverstone. Again, the group was hosted by Infiniti Red Bull Racing within their Energy Station whilst also visiting Renault-powered teams Lotus F1 Team, Scuderia Toro Rosso and Caterham F1 Team, where they talked with key members of the teams and learned more about the technique, preparation and the numerous other facets of the sport’s elite championship.

Following lunch with Christian Horner, Infiniti Red Bull Racing Team Principal, the drivers then met with additional engineers from the team coupled with meet and greet opportunities with both Infiniti Red Bull Racing team drivers, Daniel Ricciardo and Sebastian Vettel and Scuderia Toro Rosso drivers Jean-Eric Vergne and Daniil Kvyat, three of whom made the leap from Formula Renault 3.5 Series to Formula 1. A boost of motivation less than 10 days before the round at the Nürburgring!

Jean-Pascal Dauce, Renault Sport Technologies: ”By renewing these meetings conducted over the past few years, our drivers benefit from a real asset: meeting with the Formula 1 protagonists. The seriousness they have shown us over the three days reinforces the benefits of our work. At Milton Keynes and Silverstone, the drivers received a privileged welcome and precious advice concerning their futures. They also got to see to just what extent Formula 1 draws from the World Series by Renault. The meeting with four-time world champion Sebastian Vettel, made an impression as did the experiences of drivers such as Daniel Ricciardo, Jean-Eric Vergne, Daniil Kvyat, Romain Grosjean, Pastor Maldonado and Kamui Kobayashi, all of whom competed in the World Series by Renault to now race in the world championship, all still with a Renault engine!”
