Formula Renault 2.0 NEC - Preview - ASSEN
This coming weekend the Formula Renault 2.0 Northern European Cup will race in front of the biggest crowd so far this season. The Gamma Racing Day last year had over 80.000 spectators and this year, with Max Verstappen showing off his driving skills, numbers will certainly increase.
Last year at Assen it was Callan O’Keeffe (Fortec Motorsports) who won the first race and after the weekend it was Louis Delétraz (Josef Kaufmann Racing) who was number one in the overall standing. This year they are both back in the championship and it’s again Delétraz on the number one spot and O’Keeffe is looking to finish better than the third place in Spa in the first race of last weekend.
Callan O’Keeffe (#7) Fortec Motorsports: "I really can’t wait to get racing in Assen! I love the track as it is all medium and high speed corners with large amount of sand offline and gravel run offs, so it makes for a real challenge, with absolutely no margin for error. All of this in front of 80,000+ people makes for a special atmosphere at the race weekend. I have great memories from last year, taking my first pole position and race won in Formula Renault 2.0, a result I’ll do my best to try and repeat this year!"

A new driver is joining the championship with Manor MP motorsports. It is Australian driver Christopher Anthony. It will be his first European race and he will race in the rest of the season with the Formula Renault 2.0 Northern European Cup.
Christopher Anthony (#46) Manor MP Motorsports: "I am a long way from home for my first race in a Formula Renaul 2.0 and really exited taking on the challenge of racing against the best drivers in this class. A massive thanks to my sponsors back home and I hope to have a solid result this weekend."
