Eric Trémoulet takes pole at Motorland

French driver Eric Trémoulet (Vic’Team) outpaced the field in Sunday morning’s Eurocup Clio qualifying session, cutting short a run of six consecutive pole positions for Josh Files (Team Pyro). Yesterday’s race winner Oscar Nogues (Rangoni Corse) will complete the front row on the grid, ahead of Ivan Pulić (Lema Racing Team), Josh Files and Massimiliano Pedalà (Composit Motorsport).

The first man to post a timed lap in the 20-minute qualifying session was Josh Files, with Ivan Pulić and then Facundo Della Motta (Pujolaracing) moving out in front. Though the Argentinian went on to post an even faster lap, he was nudged out of top spot by Eric Trémoulet. The 2013 Renault Clio Cup Elf champion’s flying lap of 2:18.431 proved enough to give him pole, despite a last-gasp bid by Oscar Nogues, who came within 0.015 of the Frenchman. Rounding off the front five on the grid are Ivan Pulić, Josh Files and Massimiliano Pedalà.

Sunday’s Eurocup Clio race will start at 15:45.

Eric Trémoulet: “I just missed out on pole yesterday, but I managed to get the job done today, despite the fact I couldn’t get a tow. All the same, the times were very tight. What I need to do now is make sure the race goes well. The modifications we made during the night have given me confidence, though.”
