Aurélien Panis benefits from his first pole position

Aurélien Panis (ART Junior Team) has secured his first pole position in Eurocup Formula Renault 2.0. The son of Olivier Panis will take his position on the front row for Race 1 alongside fellow Frenchman Anthoine Hubert (Tech 1 Racing). Penalised from the previous meeting, Egor Orudzhev (Tech 1 Racing) and Nyck de Vries (Koiranen GP) had to give away their positions on the second row to Andrea Pizzitola (Manor MP Motorsport) and Levin Amweg (ART Junior Team).

First out on track, Group A was quickly led by Danylo Pronenko (BVM Motorsport). The Russian was soon knocked from the top spot as his opponents climbed the timesheets. Reigning French F4 Champion Alexander Albon (KTR) stood clear in first position, but in the final minutes, Anthoine Hubert and Nyck de Vries battled for the fastest time, with the Frenchman emerging victorious. Levin Amweg secured third position.

In Group B, Semen Evstigneev (BVM Motorsport) and Bruno Bonifacio (Prema Powerteam) exchanged the fastest lap times before being deposed by Kevin Jörg (Josef Kaufmann Racing). Andrea Pizzitola and Aurélien Panis took the reins from the Swiss to head the time sheets. Panis Jr. Improved with a 1’32’’025 to clinch pole position ahead of Egor Orudzhev and Andrea Pizzitola.

The lights go out for the Eurocup Formula Renault 2.0 race at 12:55pm local time.

Aurélien Panis: “We have had a good feeling since yesterday. It’s great to be able to get a result for all our hard work with this first pole in Eurocup Formula Renault 2.0! Now I must try to drive a good race and finish out in front.”
